The first members of the Bethlehem College group involved in the tal mini-van crash in Kenya are due back in Tauranga today as funeral preparations get underway for the three people killed.
The embassy staff and House of Travel personnel have been wonderful getting things organised to evacuate the groups. It is an absolute team effort. As some leave or have to stop because of exhaustion, others are able to pick up the mantle of leadership.
The group arriving today includes students and staff who were traveling in a car behind the van that crashed on the Kenyan highway last week. The group will be met by milies in Auckland before being transported to Tauranga by coach.
Peter is a Kenyan leader associated with the school and has been in ICU. The Kenyans are having to borrow money to prepare Christopher Mmatas body for burial and to pay for more care for Peter.
They have simply run out of money. Christophers mily is destitute, not just to look after him in terms of a funeral, but also with respect to their future.
